There has been a building on the site since 1560. Ffrwdgrech House itself was built in the 1830′s by Robert Lurgar, an architect. The design being one within his pattern book, a mirror image of Yaxham Rectory situated in Norfolk.

The garden contains numerous fine specimen trees, planted in the nineteenth century. The oldest were planted when the house was built and the grounds laid out in the 1830′s, namely beech, ash and horse chestnut. Others planted at the end of the century, include silver fir, Austrian pine, Californian redwood, western hemlock, swamp cypress, Douglas fir, western red cedar, birch, rowan, Japanese maple and oak.
